New Orleans Spooktacular All-Ages Ghost Walk
The French Quarter has three hundred years of ghosts, voodoo queens and the occasional vampire packed into a few square blocks. The Spooktacular is our family-friendly, 90-minute way to meet them without anyone needing a nightlight afterward.
๐ Departs from: May Bailey's Place, 415 Dauphine St.; meet in the courtyard entrance (French Quarter) โ please arrive about 15 minutes early to check in with your guide.
The walk gathers near St. Louis Cathedral and Jackson Square, where the city began, and covers a little under a mile of the French Quarter over ninety minutes. Your costumed guide leads you past the oldest buildings in New Orleans, along Pirates Alley and through the streets where Creole aristocrats, pirates and voodoo practitioners once crossed paths, pausing at the courtyards, balconies and shuttered mansions that still have residents on the lease long after the funeral.
The stories span the whole of the city's dark history: fires and fevers, the voodoo rituals of Marie Laveau's era, the vampire legends that refuse to die and the restless spirits of hotels and homes that locals cross the street to avoid. This is the all-ages version, so the guide keeps the gore in check and the fun turned up. Most of the spirits are friendly, and our guides know where the less friendly ones hang out so they can steer the group accordingly.
The tour runs about ninety minutes, all outdoors, rain or shine, so dress for New Orleans weather and wear comfortable shoes for the old sidewalks. Minors need an accompanying adult, and children 4 and under join free with a paying adult. There are no bar stops on this walk, though adults are welcome to carry a go-cup, and your guide will have dinner recommendations ready when you finish.
