Savannah Haunted History Field Trip
Oglethorpe's squares, the tunnels under downtown and the founders who may still be keeping an eye on things. Our Savannah field trip walks students through the Historic District with a costumed guide who makes Georgia history stick.
๐ Departs from: In Ellis Square by the Visitor's Center โ please arrive about 15 minutes early to check in with your guide.
Groups meet their guide at Ellis Square, one of the original squares of Oglethorpe's planned city, and set off through the haunted squares of the Historic District. Along the way the guide covers how Savannah began, points out monuments to the city's music legends and shares the stories of its oldest buildings, including the spots where you can still see evidence of the tunnels that once ran beneath downtown businesses to the river. Students hear about being shanghaied by pirates, pranked by poltergeists and the founding members who, according to local legend, still make the occasional appearance.
The walking tour is recommended for ages 9 and up and is offered to school groups, camps and youth organizations Monday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm, for groups of 5 to 100, and is built to connect with the Georgia Savannah history curriculum. For younger students a guide can come to you in historic costume with stories and games adjusted to the age level. Our guides are storytellers with Savannah history and paranormal backgrounds, many of them SCAD performing arts students, all fully background-checked.
Pricing is a flat $215 for groups of 15 or fewer, $15 per student for 16 to 40 and $13 per student over 40, each plus a 15% service charge. One chaperone per 10 students is free, aides for participants with disabilities are free and extra adults are $20. Ellis Square has room for bagged lunches with restrooms and shade nearby, and City Market next door sells food and drinks. Most spirits are friendly, and guides know where to steer around the rest.
