Houston Haunted History Field Trip
Houston was founded on the banks of Buffalo Bayou by two brothers with a plan and a lot of nerve, and a few of the city's founders appear to still be checking on their investment. Our field trip walks students through that history with a costumed guide and one secret crypt.
๐ Departs from: Market Square Park, across from the clock tower. โ please arrive about 15 minutes early to check in with your guide.
Groups meet their guide at Market Square Park, once home to City Hall and a bustling open-air market, where preserved remnants of the old city still peek through the landscaping. From there the guide covers how Houston began, how it grew and which Houstonians are said to still haunt its oldest buildings, then the walk heads down to Buffalo Bayou to meet the founders, one of whom may appear in ghostly form. The highlight for most students is the secret crypt hidden beneath the Franklin Street Bridge.
The walking tour is recommended for ages 9 and up and is offered to school groups, camps and youth organizations Monday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm, for groups of 5 to 100. For younger students a guide can come to you in historic costume with stories and games adjusted to the age level. Our guides are storytellers with Houston history and paranormal backgrounds, many with children's theatre experience, all fully background-checked. Most spirits are friendly, and guides know where to steer around the rest.
Pricing is a flat $215 for groups of 15 or fewer, $15 per student for 16 to 40 and $13 per student over 40, each plus a 15% service charge. One chaperone per 10 students is free, bus drivers who join are free, aides for participants with disabilities are free and extra adults are $20. Market Square Park has seating, restrooms and shelter for bagged lunches, and the Buffalo Bayou Cistern and Houston Aquarium are within walking distance.
