Alexandria Spooktacular All-Ages Ghost Walk
Old Town Alexandria has been collecting ghosts since 1749, and on this walk our costumed guides introduce you to the friendliest of them. It is spooky enough to earn a few squeals, gentle enough that the whole family can come along.
📍 Departs from: King & Rye in the Alexandrian Hotel, lobby — please arrive about 15 minutes early to check in with your guide.
We meet outside The Alexandrian Hotel, a spot tied to the very first shots of the Civil War, and set off through the cobblestone streets of Old Town. Over the next ninety minutes you will cover a little under a mile, past colonial brick rowhouses and the kind of alleyways that look innocent in daylight and much less so after dark. Your guide knows which doorways to linger at, and why the locals walk a little faster past some of them.
The stories come from every chapter of Alexandria's past. There are phantom merchant ships still drifting on the Potomac, Revolutionary soldiers who never got the memo that the war ended, and a few founding-era politicians who discovered that death does not come with a day off. Most of these spirits are friendly, we promise. Our guides can dial the chills up or down depending on who is in the group, so curious eight-year-olds and skeptical grandparents both leave happy.
The walk wraps up at the waterfront, which is exactly where you want to be when it ends. Your guide will happily point you toward dinner, dessert or a stroll along the river. Tours run Saturday and Sunday afternoons and evenings, rain or shine, so dress for the weather and wear shoes you can walk, crawl or roll in.

Is this walk okay for young kids?
Yes. It is designed for all ages, and guides adjust the scare level to the group. Minors need an accompanying adult, and children 4 and under join free with a paying adult.
How far do we walk?
A little under a mile over about 90 minutes, entirely outdoors on mostly flat but sometimes uneven brick and cobblestone. Strollers manage fine with a bit of care.
Does the tour go into any buildings or bars?
No. This is an outdoor walk with no drink stops, so there is nothing to buy along the way. We end at the waterfront, where plenty of restaurants are waiting.
What if it rains?
We walk rain or shine, so bring a jacket or umbrella. In genuinely dangerous weather we will contact you about rescheduling.
