Charleston Private Booze and Boos Tour

The Private Booze and Boos Tour is a 2.5-hour walking tour of historic downtown Charleston that stops at up to three of the city's haunted bars. At each one the group stays long enough for a drink while your guide tells you about the spirits who never settled their tabs, then you walk the old streets between stops hearing about pirates, poltergeists, the Old City Jail and the hotels where guests report visitors who are not on the register. It is the same tour that made us famous here, minus the strangers.

Groups book this for corporate events, team-building nights, holiday parties, bachelorette weekends and milestone birthdays, and the private format is where it shines. Shorten the route by dropping a stop, skip the drinks entirely, choose a start time between late afternoon and 8:30 pm, or have the guide meet you at the restaurant where your group is finishing dinner. Guests at the Market Pavilion Hotel, The Mills House, Planters Inn, Fulton Lane Inn or Kings Courtyard Inn can meet their guide right in the lobby.

Pricing starts at $370 for up to 10 guests, with additional tickets from $32, and increases during the mid-September to mid-November season. One guide comfortably handles 15 to 20 people; larger groups are split across guides. A heads-up on Charleston's quirks: some bars require guests to be 23 or older, and we follow each bar's rules, so tell us if anyone in your party is under 23 and we will plan alternate stops.
